Central Perk

StudyStartWeek Workshops

For new coming students, this February we are offering 2 small interactive sessions with one of the hosts of Central Perk. We would like you to familiarize yourself with Central Perk project and community, so that you know where you can find a helping hand in case you need one or if you just want to educate yourself and have fun with other people!

About Central Perk

NHL Stenden has a diverse student population. Consider, for example, first-generation students, students with a migrant background, LGBT students, young parents, students with a disability, informal caregivers, students who do not meet a stereotype. Students from these ‘minority groups’ may encounter specific issues and a number of students have indicated that they would very much like a place in the school where they can get to know like-minded students and where they will find understanding and recognition, where they can work on challenges, support each other and initiate a process of empowerment. For this purpose, we have Central Perk!

Day 1 (12:00 to 17:00 o’clock)

  • Introduction to Central Perk

  • Board Games Tournament

  • Guess how many cookies are in the Jar

We have a jar of cookies in the living room, people to guess how many cookies are in the jar – if they guess correct, they get a small prize (some sweets or cookies).

  • Morning Music

Have a coffee morning at the lounge where people can bring their musical instruments, play them and meet people with similar interests. Show your talent while making friends.

  • Bring and Share !

Students can make traditional meal from their home countries and bring it to the lounge to share with other people so people can taste different foods from around the world.

Day 3 (12:00 to 17:00 o’clock)

  • Introduction to Central Perk

  • “Surviving Stenden”

Have a survival themed event where different students from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd years come and share their own personal tips and tricks to surviving university and the different things they’ve learned that have helped them during their studies.

  • Write a Letter to you in the Future

Have a “time capsule” box in the lounge where students can write a letter to their future selves when they have finished their first year. The box will be kept sealed for a year, then opened in the next study start week and the letters will be given back to the owners so they can see how far they have come.
